In software, a stub is normally used for functions that are yet to be developed. The most common use of stubs can be found in Wikipedia, where articles that need expansion are marked as stub. They act as placeholders and informs readers that something is missing. As and when more information is available, the article gets updated and the stub becomes a full article.

Now God is another stub, or a placeholder, for anything and everything that we have no explanation for.

Initially, everything was god. The small pox, measles and plague were creations of god. The droughts, the flood were god's ways to punish us. And the only way to escape them were to please the gods. Prayer was the only cure.

And when the real cure was found, the Gods disappeared. Now no one speaks of these diseases as god's creation. Nor are floods and droughts attributed to god.

But god did not vanish completely. We still have more unresolved stubs today. The beauty of every muscle, every nerve, every cell and every thought participating in perfect synchronization to maintain what is called life, is beyond our explanation. Creation of this universe, human life, thoughts etc are stubs that still need proper explanations.

Let me summarize with this question. If a computer was shown to a person from 20 century BC, who would he think would have created it ?

He will definitely attribute it to god. The complexity, the beauty and the power of a computer would be something beyond his comprehension. And for him, there is no chance a man could have created it.

So, till we find an explanation for our existence. Till we find an answer to our life. Let there be god. Else, we would look idiots in front of our kids.
