Microsoft vs Drupal story follow up and Explanations

Dec 17 2009

My article on "Microsoft advertisements against Drupal" quickly got viral and now Microsoft has pulled down the advertisement. Mark Brown of Microsoft has posted a comment here in this blog and also posted a separate article at Microsoft.com.

I thank everyone for their feedback on that article.

What I understood from the responses was that everyone missed the message I was trying to convey. My message was simple - Drupal is now big. It is no more the tool that is used only for making small hobby sites. It has come to a stage that company's like Microsoft are willing to pay, and sometimes even pay competitors to challenge Drupal.

It was not a aimed at Microsoft nor about Microsoft paying Google. But whole article was to convey my happiness in seing Drupal at this level.

Maybe it was my writing style that caused this confusion. My intention was to slowly build up the story and keep the real message to the very end. But everyone took the first part (Microsoft ad and Microsoft vs Google). Creative writing is a skill that I now fully understand I lack.

Some people reported not seing the Ads on the page that I mentioned. This could be because Microsoft already pulled down the Ad or because Google adsense by itself always places Ads in random. And some advertisements are visible only in some regions.

Anyways, kudos to Drupal and the Boost module. Even when the article was dugg, tweetted and re-tweeted, the blog survived on this $10 per year (yes, for a whole year) shared hosting.

We'll talk about Microsoft all we want- let them try to stop us!

Microsoft has been using intimidation to dominate the OS market for years. At my shop, I encourage ever single person that comes in to my shop to dual boot (so that they have both Windows, and a non-windows System on the PC). This gives them a chance to transition at their own pace.
I tell customers about how much money they would save on Antivirus Software and PC maintenance if they stopped using Windows - because we have never seen Microsoft's products as reliable - and have several years of documentation proving that their products are inferior to Linux.
My personal favorite for Linux is Linux Mint - it's as easy to use as Microsoft's products - in fact, easier - since you'll spend less time troubleshooting and restarting.
Save a headache and a few bucks - dual boot with Linux!

P.S.

In case it wasn't obvious enough already, Precision Division is not affiliated with Microsoft Corporation. The above statement represents the views and opinion of Precision Division.
