While everyone is welcoming the government's move, they are equally skeptical about the law's success. Because, it is the law enforcement authorities who are to implement the law, and they are notorious for their incomptence.
But if someone says that this law is going to fail, I would strongly disagree.
This law will not fail for the simple reason that it gives more power to the common man, the non-smoker.
Previously, if you asked somebody to stop smoking at a public place, you almost always got the same reply - "ye tumhaara baap ka gar hai kya ? " (Is this your father's house).
But not anymore. Now you have the government's backing. You can now ask the person to stop. Even if the place is not your father's property, it is very well your father's right that he does not smoke there.
The Government has provided non-smokers with a weapon that is powerful enough that he can stop someone from blowing smoke on his face. This is a law that does not entirely depend on the authorities. With a little vigil and pro-activeness, a non-smoker can make sure that no one smokes at a public place.
So if you are a non smoker and you see someone smoking at public place, donot hesistate. Ask him to stop. No one can refuse your request. Because, now you have the backing of law.
And don't wait for the authorities to act. If you wait, you are sure to kill this law.
If the law fails, it will be because of you. Your inaction.

Great information. Thanks for posting this informative article. I have found also some other good topics about smoking reviews. You can check it out at Askdiana.net.
I hope India will learn form
I hope India will learn form other countries mistakes in implementing smoking ban. In some extent I think the smoking ban was misunderstood, people expect smokers to simply quit smoking when the ban in fact requires a more organized smoking form. Smokers have their right too, I don't think they would protest against ban if they had smoking shelters in special smoking places.
So sad yet so true

what backing is govt providing
don 't think this is a negative thinking !
1) I but if some one still says "ye tumhaara baap ka gar hai kya ? " what can we do ?
2) Who will help you out in case there is an argument or the smoker gives a harsh reply?
3) Can we put up any case(law suit).. will police register the case ?
